These same Senate Republicans who are now crying for openness, reform and transparency are the same Republicans who were part of a closed and failed process for over four decades.

The question Sen. Maziarz should be asking himself isn't why upstate Democrats voted to support this budget. He should be asking himself why Democrats now have the majority in the New York State Senate. The reason is that during the 40 years that the Republicans had control, they stood in the way of reform and stood in the way of great legislation over and over again. That is why Sen. Maziarz and his 29 Republican colleagues are in the minority. And that is where they will stay until at least 2010. “
